Taken away too soon, we have many memories from our cricket days, Jim always had a smile on his face and a sense of humour in any situation. All our love to Bev, Matt, Clinton and Nicholas and Mrs Gilbert and families.

We will always have a soft spot for Gilbert Wines. Can remember when Jim and Bev first started their vineyard and Jim came to us about getting some white gum posts for his vineyard, which he did one for him and one for us. Jim gave us some wine from his first vintage. We will never forget. A remarkable man and a great friend. Our love to Bev, Clint, Matt and Nick. Ross, Kaye, Bianca, Nathan and family xxx

A great man who set a great example to many people. Mary, you raised a wonderful son, and Bev you carried on with sharing his life and helped to make Jim the wonderful, giving man that he was. Our hearts go out to you all.

Jim was one of the first to welcome me when I arrived in Mount Barker 15 years ago. Our conversations since then were always about wine, cricket, tourism or Kendenup. Probably in that order. A sad time and a great loss to our community. Rob Stewart

Though I only had the pleasure and rich experience of knowing Jim for a short while I will forever count that experience as being blessed with knowing an extraordinary human being, a person of tremendous vision, passion and care.

Your incredible innings may have come to an end Jim, but the profound impact you had on me in that short time will live on and be cherished forever.

To Bev, Clinton, Matthew and Nicholas I extend my deepest, heartfelt, caring and supporting condolences.
